Day Trip to Chartres with a private tour guide
Join Laura Moore from Story of a City for a day trip to Chartres, a medieval treasure trove just an hour from Paris. Upon arrival, our day will begin with a visit to the magnificent Chartres Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to some of the best-preserved medieval stained glass in the world, including the famous “Chartres Blue”. This visit will be followed by a short walk through the old town to visit the Église Saint-Aignan to see its Renaissance beauty, before stopping in town for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will have a choice. You can either have your afternoon free to explore Chartres on your own. Optional places to visit include the Centre for Stained Glass (7€ entrance fee) to learn more about this beautiful art form and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Chartres, located in a former bishop’s palace. Or, you can continue with the guided journey for a walking tour of Chartres’ old town, tracing Chartres’ role during World War II and learning about the French Resistance and the life and legacy of Jean Moulin.
